How Can I Block Content for Opted-Out Consumers in the US?

You can leverage our Google Tag Manager (GTM) integration to prevent content like scripts and tracking pixels from loading for opted-out consumers.

Our opt-out workflow controls a consent signal that you can require for your website's tags. If a consumer opts out, this consent signal will be set to "Denied," and any tags that are set to require this signal will not run on your page.

Step 1: Update to the Latest Version of the GTM Template and polaris.js

To make use of this feature, you'll need to be running the latest version of our Consent Management Platform on your site, as well as be using the latest Google Tag Manager template.

  1. Follow our Update Google Tag Manager Template instructions to ensure that you're on the latest version of our GTM Template
  2. Follow the organization-specific Developer Instructions inside of Polaris to check that your usage of polaris.js is up to date.

Note: If you recently updated your polaris.js for the US Informational Banner update, you're already using the most up-to-date polaris.js.

Step 2: Set up Google Tag Manager

You'll need to be using Google Tag Manager to use this functionality.

  1. Follow Steps #1 and #2 in our instructions for Setting Up Cookie Consent in GTM to ensure you have the TrueVault Polaris CMP GTM Template set up for your website

Step 3: Edit Your Tags to Require the Non-Opt-Out Consent Signal

  1. Identify your tags in GTM that you want to block when a consumer has opted out
  2. For each of these tags, follow Step #3 in the above GTM Consent instructions to add the consent category of tv_not_opted_out

Step 4: Test Your GTM Integration

Follow the instructions starting from Step #1 here to test that the GTM Consent integration reflects the tv_not_opted_out consent appropriately. This consent signal should be Granted by default, and Denied once a consumer has submitted an opt-out request for that browser. For these instructions, use the opt-out workflow as a stand-in for changing the cookie consent settings.
