  2. Setup GTM "Consent Changed" Event

Have a way to simulate being in a GDPR country like using a a VPN

  1. Using your VPN go to a EU Country

Step 1 Setup Google Tag Assistant

  1. Go to https://tagassistant.google.com/ with your Google Account preferably using Google Chrome
  2. Click Add Domain
  3. Paste in your websites url and then click Connect
  4. A new tab of your website will pop up
  5. Go back to the Tag Assistant [Connected] tab
  6. Click Continue

Step 2 Check Consent Changed Event is Hooked Up

  1. On the left side under Summary look for the "Set" event and click on Set
  2. Then click on the Consent tab
  3. Check the default state settings which should be:

  1. Go back to your site in the other tab
  2. Click on the Manage Cookies from the Consent Popup
  3. Toggle the Analytics Cookies
  4. Go back to the Tag Assistant [Connected] tab
  5. On the left side under Summary look for the latest "consentChoice" event and click on consentChoice
  6. Check the updated consent state which should be:
Analytics Granted
  1. Go back to your site in the other tab
  2. Click on the Manage Cookies from the Consent Popup
  3. Toggle the Personalization Cookies
  4. Go back to the Tag Assistant [Connected] tab
  5. On the left side under Summary look for the latest "consentChoice" event and click on consentChoice
  6. Check the updated consent state which should be:
Personalization Granted
  1. Go back to your site in the other tab
  2. Click on the Manage Cookies from the Consent Popup
  3. Toggle the Advertising Cookies
  4. Go back to the Tag Assistant [Connected] tab
  5. On the left side under Summary look for the latest "consentChoice" event and click on consentChoice
  6. Check the updated consent state which should be:
Advertising Granted
  1. Go back to your site in the other tab
  2. Click on the Manage Cookies from the Consent Popup
  3. Toggle the Analytics Cookies, Personalization Cookies, & Advertising Cookies to Off
  4. Go back to the Tag Assistant [Connected] tab
  5. On the left side under Summary look for the latest "consentChoice" event and click on consentChoice
  6. Check the updated consent state which should be:
Default State
